marketing and popular cinema
well.. do u really think no hollywood movie gets rejected …. think again my friend… i m not saying all movies should be made for masses.. but if somebody makes and people likes it.. we need to develop an attitude for appreciating them..sometimes i really wonder why so called intellectual people like you never appreciate popular cinema. as far as the marketing is concerned, my dear friend marketing oppurtunities in india and U.S. are totally different. here u need to do a bit of economic theories.. when ur budget is 30 cr ( which includes marketing as well)..if i go by venkat’s 60% theory u will have just 12 cr to make a movie.. now think wat will be the quality.. i kno u must be thinking we shld increase the budget..but how u gonna do it? this very attitude of neglecting popular cinema and sticking only to art movie will not help the cause… simple economics says until and unless there is some incentive( profit) nobody will be willing to invest in this industry..(bollywood).. when u dont have money to make quality movie( technically sound …)and u are not getting it from outside..how u gonna make it better… we all know popular cinema yields profit..so this will be the area where investors will be interested in and once u get the infrastructure you will have freedom to experiment more and more… this would be the betterment for both popular and art movies…. i m giving you one example.. u must have heard of a mmovie called ” rok sako to rok lo”. this movie was made by a so called mamagementt guru… he tried his best but movie failed and it failed big time.. so even if u spend 80% on the marketing.. this will not help the cause….hope this time i am not contradicting myself …
