I say this on behalf of all people who feel for the casualties of the blasts.

I feel damned to have not noticed the effect of the blasts until I lost a family friend in the acts of shame the Mujahideen have committed.

I may have jsut flipped the channel when my fone rang.

My heart bleeds.

Highest pitch employed by Lata -  Lata Mangeshkar Songs
I was listening to the intermittent humming by Lata in the song - Woh Ik Nigah Kya Mili - from Half Ticket. I was wondering if there is any other song where she has gone higher. As far as I can figure, she was spanning the entire upper octave in that song. But I’ve heard (hearsay!) that Lata can go 4 octaves like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saahib etc.

Can some expert on this forum evaluate, please?

Some details of the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in 1940s and 1950s……She usually used to have KAALI-2 pitch, from here itself she could easily go upto TAAR-TAAR SAPTAK!!!!
I could remember a few songs, where Lata Mangeshkar did go to the TAAR-TAAR SAPTAK….in KAALI-2

2. Woh raat din woh shaam ki ujdi huwin……Saiyya-1951….MD Sajjad

Actually, Naushad, Roshan, SD Burman, Anilda, C Ramchandra were never inclined for high pitch songs….Roshan was very particular on this aspect!

Shankar especially was ”obsessive” for this…..Sajjad Hussein, too was very much fond of this…..Ghulam Mohd too had some high-pitched songs…..
Thanks, everybody, for responding. Indeed, the songs mentioned by you (and especially in some SJ songs like O Basanti) are scaled steeply. However, the song Ik Nigah seems to have started in Madhyama Shruti (i.e. Shadjam at the place of Madhyam of C-scale) and then she seems to have gone ‘beyond’ the pancham of the taar saptak.

I don’t have a synth at hand now, or I’d find out where exactly the highest note hits, but can someone please try and figure it out for all of us?
