Indian Classical Music

Indian Classical Music

I feel that the olden songs had the highest priority given to melody. They closely followed the rules of Indian classical music (even a non-classical song like “Woh shaam kuch ajeeb thi” was based on Raag Yaman, a raag that gives the listener an emotional high).

Also every music director treated his music like his baby. There was a lot of ownership and that is one reason why the music was original most of the time.

The music director wanted his music to be immortal and he was not part of a rat race that demanded fast-paced and short-term music (music that is similar to the fast-food we eat!) Try eating pav-bhaji EVERYDAY and you’ll hate it and long for regular and tasty meals like paranthas and biryani - that is what is happening to today’s music. You like a song, but it is played day in and day out, in almost every radio and TV channel and before you know it, you HATE listening to it!!!

Overexposure/over-promotion, lack of depth, lack of deep-rooted musical integrity and melody - this is the flavour of today’s music
