Music Maketh the Movie
Thinking of favourite quotes made me think of movies where they have used a song or music that can send chills down the spine..
Mad World at the end of Donnie Darko - that stuck with me for a long time..
The Doors’ “The End” in Apocalypse Now.
Talk about chills down the spine… I don’t think they could have chosen a better track for that.
In fact, I can’t help but think of that movie every time I hear that song now.
Hey Ilze, I like your choice of “impact”, very good, very good
A few favorites:
1. Betty Blue - amazing soundtrack. That sax…
2. Ghost in the Shell - eerie Japanese voices make this one of my alltime favorites
3. Memento - especially the last part
4. Pi - music suits the story very well
5. Smoke - that Tom Waits song at the end is a perfect fit
6. Clockwork Orange - have to agree, Kubrick really added something to the story with “Singing in the Rain”
7. Withnail and I - the Jimi Hendrix on the freeway, and the final song
8. Lost Highway - basically a music video with a (slight) story
9. Koyaanisqatsi - Philip Glass is a bit of an acquired taste, but the main theme song stuck with me for days
10. Donnie Darko - Mad World did it for me too
11. Aguirre - I loved the minimalist sounds of Popol Vuh
Some other
Dancer in the Dark - the entire soundtrack is divine
Apocalypse Now - the opening song and the music when Willard arrives at Kurtz’s place
The Elephant Man - the opening song and Barber’s Adagio at the end
Amores Perros - El Chivo segment
Eyes Wide Shut - the masked ball
American Beauty - entire soundtrack
Hana-bi - entire soundtrack
Come to think of it, all my favorite movies had great sound. I guess music maketh the movie for me…
