The falling standards of lyrics
fallinThe falling standards of lyrics
I sometimes wonder why the quality of Hindi lyrics is deteriorating and why in spite of producing so many movies, year after year we are not able to single out even one song which had outstanding lyrics.
Is it because society itself has changed and has become more materialistic, and movies produced today are made keeping the multiplex audiences in mind, who do not appreciate good poetry, and even their understanding of Hindi is very poor as a result we have songs like:-
1) Lag ja gale se tha karke
2) Bhootni ke bhootni ke
3) Ishq kameena
4) Khasmunkhane marjani
Just too many to pen down…..Or is it because we don’t have good poets, lyricists like the yesteryears
Another reason is that language has shrunk the city; it has lost its former lilting lyrical essence. Decadence has crept in the arena of language and literature.
Never again will we be able to feel the thrill of the first touch of trembling lover’s fingers, the first gurgle of your Childs laughter, the exultation of getting your first salary.
I think the era of good poetry is over and if your are interested in hearing songs with meaningful lyrics listen to songs of the bygone era from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The songs of 50s, and 60s are just not songs for me they are much more than that they evoke so many memories.
